This was a freelance project for the City of Seattle, Department of Finance, License & Tax Administration.

Typically, the department sends out simple and cost-effectively sized postcards. They felt that the upcoming changes were more significant this time and wanted a design with a little more "pop".  The mailer was designed as a large format "postcard" (size classifications place it under the USPS letter postage rates) to stand out better in a pile of mail. The design and colors needed to have some boldness and personality while remaining professional to represent the department.

For the palette, I chose a range of blues highlighted with pops of a golden mustard yellow. The blues ground the piece in a traditional business feel while the muted yellow provides a friendly and inviting contrast.  I drew the simplified interpretation of the Seattle Skyline and the Space Needle using Illustrator.
